Bangalore, Nov 18: MTV India has decided to make Bangalore the hub for its operations in Sri Lanka, Mauritius and Maldives and has also embarked on a marketing strategy for these countries."The company is eyeing these three countries to garner affiliated revenues by selling programmes. The company has already been selling programmes to TNL channel in Sri Lanka. With this strategy, we make revenues in two ways - by selling programmes and through advertisements," MTV India director Sudhanshu Sarronwala said.
MTV also plans to enter into business partnerships with channels in Mauritius as well. However, the company is unlikely to set up its own channel in these countries in the near future.
MTV's Bangalore office, which was opened on Wednesday, is accountable for around 20-25 per cent of MTV India's total income. The remaining revenue comes from its Delhi and Mumbai regions. "At a later stage, we may open an office in Chennai," Sarronwala said.
The company has 30 customers including UB, BPL, Titan, Intel, HLL, Weekender and Levis in the south. It has roped in a fair number of clients in the country - 125 for advertisements and 25 to sponsor programmes.
Sarronwala said MTV Asia of Singapore, the parent company of MTV India, is also looking at diluting its stake in its Indian venture. Talks are on with some leading companies.
Declining to divulge details, he said materialisation of the plans was subject to the recommendations of the Broadcast Bill, which is slated to be tabled in Parliament this December. "The bill will dictate our future actions," he added.
Commanding the numero position in domestic music channels in terms of viewership according to an MARG C&S TAM Peoplemeter, the channel is expecting a 120 per cent growth in revenue this fiscal. Over the next couple of years, MTV may make profits as well, according to Sarronwala.
MTV director (marketing & communications) Niren Hiro said the company is also planning to sell MTV brand bags, bats, dark glasses through franchisees in every urban centres shortly.
