New Delhi, Dec 6: Union minister for telecommunications Jagmohan plans to initiate rapid administrative reforms in the department of telecommunications.
"All reforms are important, but the most vital is reform at the workplace, especially in the working of a crucial infrastructure department like DoT", he said.
Addressing reporters soon after taking over charge, Jagmohan made it clear that the department of telecommunications will have to put its best foot forward to deliver goods to the people of the country.
"My aim will be to bring in a very high degree of efficiency to the working culture of the department", he added. On the number of vexatious issues facing the telecommunication industry, the minister said that he would study all the matters in depth before coming to any conclusion.
Jagmohan emphasised that he would initiate talks with all concerned parties in an attempt to provide rapid and transparent administration." My greatest concern is to provide a transparent and effective approach indealing with pending issues", he added.
Considering the nature of the disputes and problems being faced by the industry and the prime minister's directives on resolving the problems in a time bound manner, it remains to be seen as to what the new minister will contribute to the new policy.
In perhaps an indication of things to come, the minister of telecommunications took charge of the key ministry early on Sunday, hours after being sworn in.
His appointment assumes significance in view of the new telecom policy being formulated at present. Soon after joining, the minister had a two-hour meeting with top DoT officials to discuss the related issues.
Minister of state for telecommunication Kabindra Purkayastha and chairman of Telecom Commission Anil Kumar were present to receive the minister in Sanchar Bhavan.
