Weak power-waves
Last week, financial closures for three private power projects were announced with fanfare. With a total installed capacity of 1050mw, these constitute the second wave, the first being of Enron vintage. A third wave of half a dozen-odd plants is projected to billow in the next few months.
Beneficial prop
There are those who will question the boost that automobile corporations have received from the government's decision to go in for higher purchases of heavy commercial vehicles. Cynics will suggest that the government has no business to artificially bolster the bottomlines of corporations otherwise struggling in the slow market.
Taxability of shares received for demerger
After the recent announcement of schemes of "demerger of businesses or undertakings as a whole" by certain companies, queries are being raised by shareholders and general retail investors about their liability for income-tax on the value of shares that they might receive from a company or companies to whom such businesses or undertakings are transferred.
