The oil industry's nominee for this year's Scope Award for Excellence in Management is ONGC Videsh Ltd's (OVL's) finance director, N C Pany. Pany was in the news recently when the Union parliamentary affairs minister conferred a trophy on him for excellence in corporate management. Since then a group of professionals that calls itself the All India Achievers' Conference has honoured him for his ``outstanding services to society''. The award was given away by the Union minister of state for information and broadcasting, Muktar Abbas Naqvi.Pany has spent nearly three decades of his career in nurturing one public sector undertaking after another. His most daring feat was in turning around Modern Foods in the early 1970s.

In 1982, Pany managed to achieve a saving of Rs 240 crore in the project cost of the National Aluminium Company.
