Technology holds the key to education
Experts have been predicting for years that technology would transform every aspect of our lives. Television was going to kill off newspapers, the household robot was going to relieve us of chores that show little sign of automation... the list of false dawns is endless.
Go for a balanced portfolio to counter vagaries of the market
The ups and downs of the financial markets made headlines during 1998. Through April 21, stocks had gained an astounding 19 per cent, as measured by the BSE National Index. But the gains soon evaporated and the market was down 16 per cent at the end of the year.
Investors must be offered better investment avenues
So the market reeled under the Brazilian contagion, or so it appears. But the sell-off on Friday afternoon could have more than one reason. Operators had built huge positions in the hope of continued FII purchases. That plan had been aborted and it made sense to get rid of the stock.
