Grey areas remain in new buyback fiat
The Companies (Amendment) Ordinance was promulgated on October 31, 1998, to come into force with immediate effect. It dealt with a host of amendments to the Companies Act, 1956, particularly relating to share buyback, inter-corporate loans and investments, accounting standards and sweat equity.
Software stocks take a beating
Software stocks weakened on profit-taking on Friday. The rally in software stocks had lead to an average rise in prices by 20-25 per cent. But with the weakening in market sentiment there has been a lot of profit-taking especially because a number of speculators have decided to exit from their positions.
