Kwality Dairy to launch new range of health food items

Our Bureau
Calcutta, Jan 20: Kwality Dairy India Ltd, a subsidiary of Kwality Icecreams India Ltd, plans to launch a range of health food products towards the end of this year, the company managing director Pradeep Wig said.

Talking to reporters at the launch of the KreamKountry range of milk products in Calcutta, Wig said: "The range of health products will be unlike what you have seen in the Indian market so far."

The products will be milk-based and the company is talking to various developers of these specialised products, Kwality Dairy director S Mukhopadhyay said.

Two varieties of powder milk and ghee, which were launched in Delhi in November, were launched here on Tuesday. The products have also reached Mumbai but there will be no formal launch. Later, these will be introduced in Hyderabad and Bangalore.

Two varieties of ready-to-use liquid milk are likely to be launched within a couple of months. These will be available in either tetra-pack or gable-top packaging.

"We know that the KreamKountry brandcan be extended to icecreams too. It might happen in the long run but at present we do not wish to disturb our relationship with Hindustan Lever," Wig said.

The entire production of Kwality Icecreams is marketed by Hindustan Lever under the Kwality-Walls brand name.

Kwality Dairy is aiming at a turnover of Rs 24 crore in 1999-2000. Kwality Icecreams and the Wig family together hold around 70 per cent shares of Kwality Dairy with the Industrial Credit & Investment Corporation of India having a three per cent stake. The rest is held by the public.

Kwality Dairy launched Zerofat Milk and SmartMilk priced at Rs 60 and Rs 75 respectively in 500 gm packs. Desi Ghee has also been launched with the price hovering around Rs 130-160.
