Pune, Jan 20: Cartoon Network has launched a daily two-hour Hindi block `Toon Tamasha' to expand their market from the major metros to other Hindi-speaking cities in the country.The slot will be experimented during 1999 and the channel will be monitoring the response to the programme which will be available between 3 pm and 5 pm on weekdays and 1 pm to 3 pm on weekends.
Speaking to media persons in Pune on Wednesday, Turner Entertainment Networks Asia Inc senior vice president and general manager Celia Chong said Indian Cartoon Network met with unprecedented success in th country with an estimated viewership of six million. Revenue from advertising, too, had increased by 80 per cent during 1998. "India is a priority market for TNT and Cartoon Network and the launch of Toon Tamasha is a value addition to give the programmes an universal appeal," Chong said.
Toon Tamasha is being provided on dual audio track switch with Hindi and English audio which allows the cable operators to choose either versionsdepending on the language preference of subscribers in the neighbourhood. The dubbing for the Hindi programme has been done in Mumbai under the supervision of Warner Bros. The signature tune of the shows too have been composed and produced locally.
The network is servicing the Indian market through a separate feed via PanAmSat 4 which offers advertisers the ability to reach specific local audiences and customise its programming.
