New Delhi, Feb 7: The Budget may skip important reforms in the information technology (IT) sector, thanks to the inordinate delay in the implementation of the recommendations of the PM's task force on the Indian computer manufacturing industry. The task force was set up by the PM to boost the computer software and hardware sectors and to make India a global it superpower. The government came out with a gazette extraordinary on July 22 last year accepting several recommendations of the task force, but most of these remain unimplemented.
The Manufacturers' Association for Information Technology (Mait) has urged the finance ministry to immediately implement the gazetted recommendations of the task force particularly those relating to making customs duty zero on important components used in the indigenous production of computers.
