Rain likely in Himachal Pradesh, J&K

NEW DELHI, FEB 21: Rain or snow is likely at a few places in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Isolated rainfall or snow is likely in the hills of west UP. Isolated rainfall is also expected in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

During the week ended February 17, two western disturbances moved across the northwest India. Under their influence, rain or snow occurred at a few places in Jammu and Kashmir and at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh and hills of west UP. Rainfall also occurred at a few places in Gujarat, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and at isolated places in Haryana, Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, central Maharashtra, Marathawada, Vidarbha, south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

During the period January 1 to February 17, the cumulative rainfall was normal to excess in 18 out of 35 meteorological sub-divisions of the country.

TEMPERATURES: The night temperatures were above normal by 3øC to 5øC in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, east UP, Gujarat, west Madhya Pradesh and northMaharashtra during the previous week. They were nearly normal in rest regions of the country except northeastern states where they were 2øC to 3+C above normal.

Night temperatures rose in east UP and changed little elsewhere. They were markedly above normal in east UP, appreciably above normal in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan and in the plains of west UP and above normal in the rest of the regions of north India. The lowest temperature recorded in the plains was 11.2+C at Patiala.

The maximum early morning day temperature was 6øC above normal in Srinagar and Imphal, followed by 5øC above normal in Shimla, Jammu, Allahabad, Lucknow, 4øC above normal in Chandigarh, Delhi, Dehradun, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati and Shillong. Maximum early morning day temperatures were 3øC above normal in Amritsar, Jaipur, Udaipur, and Patna, 2øC above normal in Hissar, Agartala, Bhopal, Calcutta, Hyderabad, Nagpur and 1øC above normal in Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram andPatiala.

The minimum early morning day temperatures were 7øC above normal in Hissar and Srinagar followed by 6øC above normal in Allahabad, Lucknow, 5øC above normal in Amritsar, Varanasi, Patna, 4øC above normal in Chandigarh, Delhi, Jaipur, Bhopal, 3øC above normal in Shimla, Udaipur, Mumbai, Pune, 2øC above normal in Dehradun, Calcutta, Guwahati, Nagpur, Shillong and 1øC above normal in Jammu, PatialaBangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Imphal. Minimum early morning day temperature was, however, below 1øC in Ahmedabad.

FOG SITUATION: In the early morning thick layers of fog was seen in Delhi. Fog was seen with haze in Pune. Layers of mist was seen in Varanasi and Imphal. Haze was seen in most parts of the country in Jaipur, Allahabad, Lucknow, Agartala, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Calcutta, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur and Patna. Haze was seen with duststorm in Amritsar, and with rains in Thiruvananthapuram.

ADVICE TO FARMERS
WHEAT:
Agromet unit of IndiaMeteorological Department has cautioned the farmers of north India that due to prevailing high humidity and temperatures during last week, Karnal Bunt can affect the crop. Wheat crop is in the stage of late tillering to earhead formation stage. As the maximum and minimum temperatures are 2øC to 4øC above normal in Rajasthan, UP, Delhi and Punjab, the farmers are adviced to apply light irrigation to the crop.

OILSEEDS: Farmers are adviced to keep removing weeds. As cloudy weather is likely to prevail, aphids can occur over mustard crop which are in pod to grain formation stage. If the population of aphids increases, then the farmers are adviced to spray 400 ml of Rogar 30 EC or 100 ml of Dimecron 85 SL in 400 litre of water per acre.
