894 items shifted to OGL, 414 more on SIL
In a major leap forward in economic reforms, the commerce ministry has shifted as many as 894 additional items to the freely importable list. At the same time, 414 items have been permitted to be imported through the special import licence (SIL) route, leaving only 667 items in the restricted list.
Oil-pool deficit falls by Rs 2,000 crore
The oil-pool deficit has come down by nearly Rs 2,000 crore to Rs 4,887 crore following the second partial redemption of bonds issued to oil companies. The Centre has redeemed bonds to the tune of Rs 1,715 crore, which effectively lowers the outstandings to oil majors.
ICICI set to pump in Rs 500 crore into steel projects
Close on the heels of Industrial Development Bank of India announcing the Rs 1,080 crore steel package, ICICI has drawn up plans to disburse around Rs 500 crore to meet the additional funding requirement of some of the steel projects which had suffered from cost overrun in recent times.
