Mumbai, Apr 12: The General Insurance Corporation has clarified that the word `rape', which appears while explaining the various circumstances in the illustrative clarification of the recently launched Rajrajeshawari Mahila Kalyan Bima Yojna, has been deleted.The word has caused some controversy and there have been some representations to the Government for an appropriate amendment in the policy a GIC release said. It is not the intention of the GIC to hurt anybody's feelings and sentiments and the `word' has been quoted out of context in some of section of the press.
There cannot be any question of covering any `social crimes' by an insurance policy. The scheme is devised for insurance on 24 hours basis for permanent disablement to the insured women arising out of an accident: caused by outward, violent and visible means. This policy also provides cover due to an accident as explained in the policy to--a unmarried women for her own death in which event the compensation will be payble to her legal heirsand in the case of married woman, death of the insured woman's husband in which event the compensation will be payble to the insured wife only.
