Sudipto Dey
NEW DELHI, Apr 22: Microsoft Corporation's latest office suite of product, Office 2000, to be simultaneously launched in the country as part of worldwide launch on June 7 this year, will be available at price points similar to that of present suite of Office 97.

Office 2000 will be available in three flavours -- standard package (Rs 15,000), Professional (Rs 19,500) and Premium (Rs 26,500), said Microsoft India product manager Karthik Padmanabhan.

The next update of Office 2000, which is expected to be early next year, will sport a Hindi-enabled version of word processor MS Word, said Padmanabhan.

Microsoft is working closely with local software companies such as Sonata Software and Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) for developing Indian fonts, he added.

As a precursor to launch of Office 2000, the company on Thursday announced the results of a spot poll involving over 60 Indian corporates for critical feedback on Office 2000 which is still in a testing phase.

This is the firsttime Indian corporates have been involved in critical assessment of a Microsoft product, said Padmanabhan.

Worldwide over 20,000 users were involved in the beta testing programme. In all over 260 Indian companies have registered at the beta site, he said. Out of them 120 companies were actively involved in beta testing, he added.

Over 94 per cent of the Indian Beta tester voted in favour of the product, citing web integration and data tracking and analysis tools as the key improvements in the new version, company officials said.

Over 91 per cent expressed their intention to deploy the new product across the organisation, the company added. Companies involved in the testing represented a broad spectrum of industries including public sector undertakings, banks, infotech and manufacturing companies.

Internet-enabled and collaborating features will be high point of the product, said Padmanabhan.
