The Tata group, as part of a strategy to bolster its agro business, is planning to acquire a majority stake in the Tetley Group of UK, a leading player in the global tea industry.

ITC Ltd reported an 18.5 % growth in net profit to Rs 623.42 crore for the year to March 31, 1999, from Rs 526.20 crore in the preceding year. Net sales turnover grew to Rs 3,515.38 crore from Rs 3,140.81 crore.
