Bharat Earth Movers' technology meet

Bharat Earth Movers Ltd in association with the Indian Academy of Engineer's will hold a three-day global meet on technology between November 17 and 19 in Bangalore. According to BEML sources, "The global technological interaction meet demands importance as manufacturing playing a crucial role in the marketability of products with technology catching up with new trends." Focused on `Manufacturing Technology Beyond 2000', the seminar would handle a wide range of aspects related to manufacturing.

ECIL bags award

Electronics Corporation of India Ltd, a public sector undertaking under the Department of Atomic Energy, has been selected by the Department of Electronics for the national award for excellence in R&D in electronics for 1997. The national award is given to companies which have been performing well for the last three years in the field of electronics. The award is open to both public and private concerns. ECIL had earlier received national awardsfor excellence in communications (1990) and excellence in strategic electronics (1992), also instituted by the Department of Electronics.

New members in MTNL board

Former MMTC chairman SN Malik and two others have been inducted as non-official directors in Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) as part of broadbasing its board to give it greater financial and administrative autonomy under the navratna package. The other two new non-official directors who have been nominated by the Government to the telecom utility's board are former deputy governor of Reserve Bank of India RV Gupta and retired civil servant MP Khosla, official sources said.

Lokesh Machines ties up with German firm

Lokesh Machines Ltd, a leading manufacturer of special purpose custom built machines and computer numerical controlled (CNC), machines for the auto components industry has entred into a technology tie-up with Grob of west Germany. According to managing director M Lokeshwar Rao, the objective of the tie-up is toimprove the company's export prospects further for which it will be infusing fresh funds to the extent of Rs 20 crore on new plant and machinery. The company has bagged an order from an Italian company for the supply of CNC machines and a five year contract from Mahindra & Mahindra.

MRTPC stays ground handling by AI

Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission (MRTPC) on Tuesday stayed a directive which provided exclusive ground handling rights to Air India (AI) at Cochin international airport till June 28. Acting on a private complaint filed by a consumer, MRTPC member Sardar Ali said Air India could not impose any restriction on ground handling by Jet Airways till the next date of hearing. The complaint filed by Jet Airways in this regard will also be taken up on June 28 along with the private complaint of R Venugopal, a frequent flier of Jet Airways.
