Poverty of growth
A World Bank poverty update estimates that 340 million people were living in poverty in India by 1997, up from 300 million in late 80s. The first seven years of reform thus showed a rise in the numbers of the poor.

Rating and reality
According to reports, the revised guidelines finalised by Securities & Exchange Board of India (SEBI) does not permit, credit rating agencies to rate instruments of their institutional promoters.
