Seed import policy conundrum
Edible oils, though very important, have become cheaper than bottled aerated water. A flood of edible oils has seen prices crash to around Rs 24-25 per kg from over Rs 32-35 in April this year.

Oiling the economy
Reports say that the petroleum ministry is finally taking steps to comply with the provisions of Nirmal Singh committee and the recommendations of the expert technical group, at least so far as duties on crude are concerned.

Troubled exports
Commerce minister Ramakrishna Hegde has finally come out with an export target of 11%, in US dollar terms, for 1999-2000. This is by no means an ambitious target.
