Mumbai, July 10: The Skindia GDR Index touched a new 52-week high of 888.35 in mid-day trade on July 9 compared to 835.70 on July 2, in mid-day trade. Seven GDRs quoted at their 52-week highs during mid-session on July 9 on appeal by Pakistan's defence committee to resolve the crises. Based on this, the Skindia GDR index moved up to touch 888.35 in mid-day trade on July 9 up by 35.25 over the July 8 close 853.10.For the week ended July 8, the Skindia GDR index moved up by 4.23 per cent to close at 853.10 up from its previous close of 818.50. The Skindia GDR Index price to earnings multiple dropped by 16.83 per cent to close at 28.02 on July 8 from 33.69 on July 1. The Skindia GDR Index Premium also dropped by 11.32 per cent to close at 19.90 per cent on July 8 from 22.44 per cent on July 1.
The seven GDRs which quoted at 52-week highs were of Grasim Industries at 49.93, Gujarat Ambuja Cements Ltd at $ 11.25, Hindalco at $ 25.05, Indian Rayon at $ 4.98, L&T at $ 19.80, Mahindra & Mahindra at $ 9.43 andTelco at $ 7.95. The top gainers in the GDR market for the week ended July 8 were Grasim which gained 29.82 per cent, M&M which gained 29.48 per cent and Crompton Greaves which moved up by 26.83 per cent. On the other hand the top losers of the week were GDRs of Bajaj Auto down by 14.94 per cent, ITC down by 5.68 per cent and Ranbaxy Laboratories of 1.82 per cent.
The top gainers in the underlying shares were of Graism industries which gained 37.59 per cent, Kesoram Industries up by 37.36 per cent and HDFC up by 34.19 per cent.
During the week the GDRs on an average gained 6.90 per cent and the underlying shares 11.51 per cent. GDRs from the auto sector were top gainers with an appreciation of 14.24 per cent followed by cement and power sectors by 12.87 per cent and 11.86 per cent. Pharma sector was the only loser by 0.45 per cent. In shares riding on the back of rising prices, aluminium sector was top gainer advancing 21.64 per cent, followed by cement and auto moving up by 18.46 per cent and 16.52 percent.
According to Skindia Finance more than 7 companies have announced their DR programmes for this year. This time a number of companies are planning to go for ADR issues after a successful ADR issue of Infosys. Pentafour Software has already got its GDR program at London on June 21, 1999 and plans a second issue either of ADR or GDR. It plans to raise $60 million through its DR program.
