Silence of the guns sees Sensex boom 222 points
There were only bulls on the street. For the stock markets, Kargil appeared to be behind and the road for the all-time peak has been cleared of all hurdles. So strong was the bullish fervour that the Sensex opened with a big gap. It opened at 4463.44 points to touch a high of 4588.10 before closing at 4585.63 point.
BPCL tags rider to pick stake in Essar refinery
In a twist to the Essar Oil saga, Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) has indicated that it would need to acquire the company's 80mw captive power plant as a pre-requisite to picking up a stake in the refinery.
Govt refuses to budge on telecom package
The union government will not backtrack on the telecom bail-out package under any circumstances. The package had come under a cloud when President KR Narayanan had summoned former communications minister Jagmohan on Friday, barely three days after a cabinet clearance.
