Freight rates to stay range-bound

Mumbai: Freight rates for the nine-tonne truck load from Mumbai to various parts of the countries will remain range-bound in the coming week, the truck operators said. "The rates will also depend upon the strike called by the truck operators in Maharashtra from midnight of August 1", a transporter said. According to him, the truck rates will fluctuate largely on the supply of vehicles. In the last week, the truck rates remained stable in most of the states expect for Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. In the upper north, the rates to Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh remained same. The Mumbai to Srinagar rates were static at Rs 30,000 while rates to Shimla were at Rs 18,000. The rates to Delhi remained at Rs 12,500, as a result, the rates to Haryana and Punjab also remained same at the previous week's levels. The Mumbai to Bihar rates, however, jumped substantially due to shortage of vehicles. The rates to Patna rose to Rs 21,000 from Rs 19,600 while rates to Jamshedpur were up from Rs 16,500 to Rs19,000. The rates to Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh also increased by Rs 500 to Rs 14,000 in the the last week. The rates to remaining places in the state such as Agra and Meerut remained same at Rs Rs 12,700 andRs 13,200, respectively. The freight rates to the western region remained stable. The Mumbai to Surat rates, however, were slightly up by Rs 200 to Rs 3,000. The rates to Indore were at Rs 5,500. In the eastern sector, West Bengal was the only state to which the rates went up. While to the remaining states, the rates remained same. The Mumbai to Raniganj rates went up from Rs 19,800 to Rs 20,500 while rates to Calcutta were steady at Rs 20,500. The rates to Siliguri were up by Rs 1,000 to Rs 23,500. In the southern sector too the rates were stable. The rates to Bangalore were steady at Rs 9,000 while rates to Chennai were at Rs 12,700.
