Mumbai, Oct 28: DBS Internet Services has come a long way from being astart-up company to creating a corporate identity -- positioning itself as abusiness-to-business (B2B) e-commerce solution provider company. In thisregard, not only is it printing visiting cards saying `DBS Internet -- theB2B Company', it is also in the process of releasing print campaignsemphasising the same. Even as the ad agency is still to be decided upon, sources in the company say that there would be two print campaigns: acorporate campaign and a technology campaign. While the corporate campaignwill be released in business newspapers and magazines would focus on how B2Bwill benefit a company from the business point of view, the technologycampaign is to be released in IT-specific magazines and would detail thetechnology part of B2B. The campaign is scheduled to be released in earlyNovember.Says its CEO Sanjay Shetty: ``B2B e-commerce is the tool of the millenniumto leverage business expansion through the natural advantages of the Web,such as low investment in terms of cost and time of deployment, widergeographical reach, convenient connectivity with lower sensitivity to timezone factors among several others.''
However, DBS has a tedious task ahead in terms of educating people one-commerce. Says Shetty: ``People are not aware of the B2B implications. They need to understand the concept better.'' To address the issue, DBSInternet is launching roadshows in three cities-Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.More than 50 CEOs and CIOs are expected to attend the roadshows in eachcity. Says Shetty: ``Even if we are able to explain and convince 10 per centof the invitees, our job is done.'' Depending on the response, the companyintends holding such roadshows for specific vertical segments in the nextfew months.
And if one goes by IDC study forecast, B2B transactions would represent 79per cent of the total e-commerce business by the year 2002. A Nasscom studydone for the Indian market in 1998-99 has put B2B transactions at Rs 119crore of the total Internet sales of Rs 131 crore. The remaining Rs 12 croreis for business to consumer (B2C) solutions. DBS Internet already has about10 clients for B2B solutions only.
