Seattle, Dec 2: The G-15 group of developing countries are unanimous on the implementation issues arising from the Uruguay Round agreements and on keeping non-trade issues such as labour standards outside the WTO disciplines.A declaration of the Group on these lines will be adopted on Thursday after including the points of view of Brazil on agriculture.
The Group had a meeting here on Wednesday at which a draft declaration to reflect their unanimous views on the implementation of the Uruguay Round agreements and on their stiff opposition to the inclusion of the core issue of labour standards in the agenda for negotiation at Seattle was circulated among the members.
Briefing newspersons of the outcome of the meeting, commerce and industry minister Murasoli Maran said that the meeting decided that the implementation issues must be taken up first and only thereafter subjects discussed at the Singapore ministerial conference be addressed.
Maran said that he had a meeting with European commissioner Pascal Lamy to find commonality of approach on several key issues of mutual interest, adding that such meetings would be continued in the future.
The minister said that India and the Cairns group of countries held identical views on developed countries cutting their farm subsidies.He said that India would be participating in the four working groups constituted on Monday.
