Mumbai, April 7: Hyderabad-based Sparsh Communications is out in the market to find takers for a Rs 40 crore private placement, managing director Anjana Sanghi said. She added that the company has been valued by Ernst & Young recently, but declined to give further details. The company is out in the market for fresh funding to expand its network of 339 kiosks which it has set up across highways in the country. These kiosks, which cater to the transport community, are connected by V-Sats supplied by Bharti Telecom.
Market sources have indicated that Sparsh Communications is actively considering an IPO and that it is talking to merchant bankers. The company, however, did not comment on the issue. What Sparsh essentially does is this: It has built a network of kiosks which keep track on member-trucks on highways. The owner can access data on his fleet at any given point in time. More pertinently, he can communicate with his fleet on a real time basis.
The network allows two-way communications. Sparsh claims that it is working at setting up kiosks along all major highways separated from each other by 50 kms. Clients include large corporates like HLL, Maruti, GATI, and Swift.
