Banks play the spoilsport, knock 285 pts off Sensex

The BSE Sensex crashed by 285 points on Tuesday to close at a six-month low of 4372.22 points, fuelled by aggressive selling by select banks who are estimated to have offloaded stocks worth Rs 150-200 crore. The Sensex lost 6.13% from its Friday's close of 4657 points.

IT, auto sectors turn in stellar show in '99-00
