New Delhi: Now you can log on to www.webdunia.com and register your telephone complaints directly with communications minister Ram Vilas Paswan. "Complaints, including those about faulty lines or over-billing and even delay in giving phone connections, can be sent directly to me through this site," Paswan said. The complainant will first have to tell about himself/herself in Hindi or English followed by the nature of his complaints and the local authority to whom the complaint was addressed. Next, experts from webdunia would examine if the complain can be forwarded to the minister or not.
The complaint will then be forwarded to the minister and actions to the same will be ensured. These services would be available in other Indian languages besides Hindi, explained Kishore Bhuradia, CEO, Webdunia.
"A redressal cell in the ministry will not only bring these complains but will also ensure that their solutions are promptly redressed," added Paswan.
Usually quite a few complaints lay unattended for longer periods and no actions are taken for their redressal. With this kind of services coming in, a decrease in the number of such complains is expected. According to Paswan, this new service will go a long way in ensuring transparency in the working of his ministry.
Meanwhile, answering questions about VPTs and grameen telephones, Paswan said that the government was committed to provide telephones to all villages by the year 2002. He said that even if private operators fail to meet their VPT obligations, the government will meet its commitments.
Paswan also said that even though the government was committed to ensuring VSNL's monopoly till 2004, the rates for international calls would soon come down. "Moreover, once the private sector comes into National Long Distance (NLD), and competition, increases, the rates will come down," he added.
Paswan also said that apart from setting up rural telephones committees on NRI's to invest in telecom, the ministry has also set up a spectrum advisory committee and a bandwidth advisory committee.
