Sunkus, Circle K set up e-comm joint venture

Tokyo: Japanese convenience store chains Sunkus & Associates and Circle K Japan Co said on Monday that they have set up a joint venture with 14 other Japanese firms to offer goods and services online. The move comes as Japanese retailers, under a cloud from a prolonged economic slump, pin their hopes on the potential of Web-based shopping in Japan, where sales of personal computers and use of the Internet are rising rapidly.Japanese convenience store chains in particular have begun to expand rapidly into online sales to take advantage of the recent rush by ordinary Japanese to catch up with the digital age.
