Jet ties up with Hutchison to provide services

Sabarinath M
Mumbai, July 5: Jet Airways has tied up with cellular service providers Hutchison Max Telecom and Sterling Cellular to provide flight information services in Mumbai and Delhi respectively. This online-service will enable the customers to have easy access to exact flight timings of Jet Airways.

The service, designed by the Pune-based iSolv, will be operated through a network created exclusively for the purpose. It will provide information such as schedule and exact status of any Jet Airways flight operating between the two metros.

Commenting on the online service, Jet Airways chief executive officer Steve Fort said: "Our customers will find the service invaluable and it will make the travel process a hassle-free one."

Jet Airways customers will also be able to register a pre-alert for future flights in advance at www.jetairways.com or www.Webonmobile.com and they will be alerted in case the flight is delayed by more than 10 minutes. The alert setting can also be done on mobile phones, said a Jet Airways official.

iSolv managing director Milind Agnihotri said that this concept has been introduced in the UK only a few days ago underscoring the fact that India is not lagging behind in technology.

Agnihotri added that foreign airlines operating into India like British Airways and Virgin Atlantic have shown keen interest in starting a service of this kind. Since iSolv has struck an exclusive arrangement with Jet Airways, the company will not tie up with any other domestic airline, he said.

The online services could be a prelude to on-line booking in India but the security aspect has to be ensured before starting such a service, he said.Hutchison Max Telecom Ltd, with its premium brand Orange, is the leading cellular service provider in Mumbai with over 1,40,000 customers. Jet Airways operates over 195 flights daily to 39 destinations across India.
