New Delhi, July 3: Education software major, NIIT Ltd is increasing the equity limit for foreign institutional investors (FII) to 40 per cent as the existing 30 per cent limit has been exhausted. The company has convened a board meet tomorrow to consider the move in the wake of large scale demand from FIIs to upwardly revise the limit. Top company sources, when contacted, said that concerned stock exchanges have been informed of the board meeting late Saturday and hoped that a positive decision would boost the investor confidence in the scrip.
FIIs had been finding it difficult to make fresh purchases on the counter as the prescribed 30 per cent limit was touched long back and had approached the company requesting to revise the limit upwards. The Union budget 2000-01 had provided FIIs to own upto 40per cent equity in Indian companies after due approvals. NIIT had last year hiked the FII limit from 24 per cent to 30 per cent, which witnessed NIIT's share price touching a high of Rs. 3500 per share.
