Ebony ties up with NIS to set up retail academy

New Delhi: In a bid to meet in-house requirements of trained sales staff, Ebony Retail Holdings has-in association with the National Institute of Sales (NIS)-set up its own Ebony Retail Academy in the Capital.

As per the agreement between the two, while NIS will provide the course content and the academic expertise, space and other infrastructure required to run the academy will be provided by Ebony. Besides, the faculty will be from NIS who will also devise the course content and the methodology in consultation with Ebony. Ebony has so far invested about Rs 20 lakh in the project.

What has prompted Ebony to go for an alliance with NIS? ``Ebony is on a rapid expansion spree for which it needs a large number of trained retail professionals. At present, there are no specialised courses in retail sales available in India. NIS is a premium institute offering specialised courses in the area of training. Hence the decision to go with NIS,'' says Lalit Kumar, vice-president, Ebony Retail Holdings.

Besides retail, Ebony also plans to offer courses in disciplines such as merchandising, sourcing, demand forecasting, store operations. To start with the Academy is announcing the certificate course for the front officesales staff.
