Monalisa to hive off plastic wing, plans global expansions

Baburajan K
Daman: Monalisa Infotech Ltd has decided to hive off its plastics division into a separate company. The company has roped in PriceWaterhouseCoopers as its strategic advisors. "The scheme of demerger is being finalised. The scheme will be structured in a way that the existing shareholders will get additional shares of the new company without diluting the holdings," Monalisa Infotech managing director Azam Khan told eFE.

While the infotech division contributed about Rs 4 crore to the total income of Monalisa Infotech during the last fiscal, its plastic unit had reported a revenue of Rs 27 crore. "The demerger will help us unlock the share value in the infotech business," Khan added. Monalisa is planning to set up software development centres in the US, Dubai and Sydney shortly. The company, which is planning a private placement of equity shares shortly, will invest Rs 15-20 crore over the next 18 months. It has already injected over Rs 12 crore into its infotech business over the past few months.

Monalisa's Ajay Parmar said the infotech division was looking at a turnover of Rs 22-25 crore during the current fiscal. It is expected that Rs 8-10 crore will come from web application, Rs 9 crore from its portals and the remaining from training and software development.

Khan said www.healthcarehouse.com, a medical site promoted by Monalisa was making enough cash profits. The healthcare portal will generate an income of Rs 6 crore during the current fiscal, while www.propertyrealestate, another portal from Monalisa is planning to achieve a revenue of Rs 3 crore during the current fiscal. Healthcarehouse.com offers various online services like employment exchange, online medical journals, latest medical news, events and seminars. It also includes facilities for bidding for tenders, buying and selling of new and used medical and health-related products.

Meanwhile, Monalisa Infotech on Saturday inaugurated a software training centre in Daman for imparting training to existing IT professionals on the latest and high-end technologies.
