ITFinity among six worldwide winners of Nokia contest

Mumbai: ITFinity, the Mumbai-based technology company which focuses on WAP technology has been declared one of the six worldwide winners of the Nokia contest for developers, held in February this year. ITFinity is the only Asian company to win the contest. The five other winners are all out of Europe. The company has won the contest for its WAP-enabled dating service - `Heart Throb'. Announcing this at the Nokia "Map the world with WAP" road-show held in Mumbai, Michael Braun, Sales Director, Nokia Internet Communications, also outlined the shape of things to come, as far as adoption to WAP devices and WAP services are concerned. Stating that the adoption of WAP devices was likely to be very fast and not necessarily among a user base that was any "younger or richer" than the PC user base today, Braun indicated that WAP devices were likely to be adopted very speedily. Addressing the seminar, Minna Haataja, Business Development Manager, Asia-Pacific, Nokia Mobile phones said, "we estimate that there will be more WAP devices than PCs by 2003." Haataja also indicated that developers were now moving towards creating WAP enabled multimedia services. Dwelling on the nature of services that would find takers in the user base, Haataja outlined a few principles based on a user survey conducted by Nokia in Europe. "As far as content goes, it just won't suffice to WAP-enable the existing content on the site, you have to customize it, so that it meets the needs of WAP users, secondly, users have indicated that all the information being delivered through the browser should be in WML to optimize the user experience and this is the responsibility of the content/application provider. Thirdly, delivery and speed were all cited as the key constituents of a valuable user experience," said Haataja. Copyright © 2000 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
