Cine star Twinkle Khanna was in the Capital recently on a special mission. She had come to inaugurate a centre of the National Open School, Tamanna.Shy, but poised, Twinkle delighted the children at Tamanna and they in turn pulled at her heartstrings. Greatly moved, she said, "This affection is far greater than the adulation one gets by being a part of the glamour world. Here, there is genuine feeling and happiness in the entire exercise."
Speaking on the occasion, Pawan Kant Munjal, president of the Rotary Club of Delhi, Southend, said that the fact that the Rotary Club had been around for almost a century bears testimony to the good work it has done. This year, the Rotary Club of Delhi, Southend, will undertake activities in support of healthcare, literacy, particularly education for the girl child, and caring for the aged and aiding the handicapped, he added.
Another vocational training centre at the Akshay Pratishthan, a voluntary trust for physically challenged children in New Delhi, was inaugurated by cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. As part of a social service project undertaken by the Rotary Club of Delhi, Tendulkar also distributed sewing machines, educational kits and sports equipment.
In association with the Amar Jyoti Charitable Trust, New Delhi, the Rotary Club also donated artificial limbs, wheelchairs and sewing machines to the physically challenged at the Arya Samaj Mandir, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi.
