Crop losses may overshoot food subsidy bill

Insects, pests and weeds have developed 40 to 100% resistance to chemical pesticides and as a result, crop losses can be expected to increase further from the already staggering Rs 30,000 crore per annum a figure higher than India's annual food subsidy.

Industry set to fight move to drop NOC for foreign firms

The domestic industry is up in arms against the government's reported move to withdraw Press Note 18, which makes it mandatory for a foreign company to obtain a NOC from the existing local joint venture partner before setting up a wholly-owned subsidiary in the same line of business.
