A touch of earthiness for your concrete houses

HUMA SIDDIQUI
For those who love to decorate their rooms with terracotta, Ms Anju Kumar has her Anmol collection to offer and, that too, at affordable prices.

She has been doing terracotta pottery for over last 10 years. Her works are handcrafted and painted.

"I have had no formal training in this art form," says Ms Kumar. "But I have learnt it over years. For me, pottery is a full-fledged passion."

For her it's the most challenging and flexible medium ideal for self-expression. "Various combinations of clay, paints, processes and time frames go into giving the various types of pottery their distinctiveness and exclusivity," explains Ms Kumar.

Ms Kumar has already showcased her works in 55 exhibitions and has got contracts from leading hotels, corporate houses and art collectors. She also exports her products to countries like the USA, Europe, and Singapore.

Ms Kumar's collection comprises paintings, lamps, vases, urns, pots, planters, Ganeshas, stands and Diwali gifts. Exquisite table pillars with glass tops are other novel items in her collection. The telephone stands and chowkies are also there, carved intricately, showcasing a unique blend of contemporary and traditional designs. Floor lamps have vibrant murals and add a touch of romance to ordinary surroundings. Exquisite jharokhas and sculptures, made from wood and clay, are sure to draw your attention.

She adds: ``Today my emphasis is on using clay to make things of practical utility like garden furniture, table lamps, coffee tables, etc."

And much to the discerning buyers' delight, these art works are priced to suit every pocket. The price ranges from Rs 75 and goes up to Rs 2,500.
