BHUBANESWAR, May 2: The Indian Express launched its 19th edition here
today.Releasing a special supplement brought out to mark the launch,
Governor Gopala Ramanujam said that he hoped a local edition of The
Indian Express would not only make the people of the State ``nationally
conscious but also make others sit up and take notice of Orissa.''He hoped
the newspaper would give the State a voice at the national level and
contribute to its development.Calling the Press a forum for expressing the
voice of the underprivileged against that of the powerful elite, Ramanujam
urged newspapers to go beyond the news. Expressing concern over the rising
atrocities against women today, he urged newspapers not just to report facts
but investigate reasons for such phenomena and bring about a social change.
