DoT withdraws fixed to cellular tariff hike

[Details] The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) withdrew the tariff hike from fixed to cellular mobile phones, with retrospective effect from May 1, 1997. The hike in tariff from fixed to cellular phones had seen a 50% fall in the airtime traffic from fixed to cellular phones. Correspondingly many foreign telecom operators had threatened to review from their investments plans.

Pvt sector share in investment falling

[Details] Shocking as it may seem, the share of the private sector in investment intentions has actually fallen dramatically in the last two years. While the private sector accounted for slightly under 57% of the total investment proposed in the country as on May 1995, this fell to 52% a year later, and further to 48% at present.

Peak crisis looms as power misses mark by 23,000 MW

[Details] During the Ninth Plan, addition to power generation capacity is estimated to be around 34,000 MW against the required 57,000 MW. The shortfall, says an assessment by the ministry of power, is due to inadequate availability of funds, slow progress of ongoing projects, limited fuel linkages and slipshod project preparedness.
