A wide Open for the outsiders

Men's tennis on clay courts has never been more open as the world's premier clay court event begins in Paris today. Seeding, ranking, favourites and big names mean very little as the European clay court season comes to an end with the French Open.

Sabotage, cries Dalmiya

Jagmohan Dalmiya, the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal, hinted that a `sabotage' was the cause behind the crowd trouble at the Eden Gardens during the World Cup semi-final last year. The scarcity of drinking water, which had been cited as the cause behind frayed tempers, was due to overflowing of water at the adjacent Mohun Bagan ground.

Spain lift Team Cup

Spain clinched their fourth World Team Cup title today when Albert Costa saved two match points in the third set for a 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (9-7) victory over Mark Philippoussis to give them an insurmountable 2-0 lead over Australia.
