Laloo faces contempt plea
The screws have tightened on Janata Dal chief Laloo Prasad Yadav with assistant returning officer B K Prasad moving the Delhi High Court challenging Laloo's decision to call the national executive on June 8 and dissidents preparing to welcome Sharad Yadav's arrival in Patna today.

Chase on to nab Bhansali
Six persons were arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Rs 1,200-crore CRB financial scam. They include four directors of the controversial CRB Capital Markets Limited, besides a financial controller and a relative and close associate of kingpin Bhansali.

Presidential poll on July 14
Lack of unanimity has forced the Election Commission (EC) to defer a decision on a proposal to restrain political parties from issuing a whip in the Presidential polls. The EC has announced that elections to the Presidential post will be held on July 14, with a formal notification of the poll schedule to be made on June 9.

Suave Gujral agrees to renew friendship treaty with Nepal
India has agreed to take another look at the 1950 Indo-Nepal treaty of peace and friendship that Kathmandu has been pressing New Delhi to revise in recent years. It also asked Nepal to take action against anti-Indian elements operating from its soil.

Tobacco major ITC has approached Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI) for a Rs 300-crore loan. The loan has been sought to fund the tobacco division's expansion, however, sources said a major reason is to ensure the continuance of institutional nominees on the company's board.

CRB Caps president, 5 others arrested
The president of CRB Capital Markets and two associates of chairman C R Bhansali have been remanded to police custody till June 19 by additional chief metropolitan magistrate S D Madake. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has also arrested three other persons in connection with the CRB collapse.

Draft money laundering bill next week
Revenue secretary N K Singh has directed the inter-ministerial committee, which is preparing the tentative draft of the Money Laundering Bill, to submit it within a week. This is despite differences among the committee members over certain provisions of the draft.

SBI Home Fin opts for priority sector bonds
SBI Home Finance has decided to scrap its proposed 1:1 rights issue and, instead, mop up around Rs 40 crore through priority sector bonds. The decision will make the State Bank arm the first housing finance company to raise funds through priority sector bonds.

Koshika Telecom plans Rs 210 cr investment in Bihar, Orissa
Orissa and Bihar are poised to become big markets for telecom operators with major investments expected to pour in through telecom licencee Koshika Telecom. Koshika is estimated to pump Rs 210 crore into the two states over the next two years.
