Steep fall in new firm registration

For the first time in the last five years, the number of fresh companies registered during the year fell sharply in 1996-97.

Companies fail to fulfil projected profit level

Promises are made only to be broken later, especially in the corporate sector. Companies which raised funds from the public are finding it difficult to keep their word when it comes to the financial performance.

Inflation inches up to 5.85%

Putting a brake to the continuous decline, the annual rate of inflation went up marginally by 0.02 percentage points to close the week at 5.85 per cent.
