[Details] The BSE Sensitive Index (Sensex) shot up to a new 52-week high of 4,272 points yesterday. The previous 52-week high of the Sensex was 4,148.86, recorded a few days ago.

Banks show Rs 3,000 cr profit

[Details] Public sector banks have improved their bottomlines by posting a combined net profit of Rs 3,000 crore in 1996-97. This is against a net loss of Rs 371 crore in the previous year. The operating profits of these banks have gone up to Rs 9,100 crore from Rs 3,646 crore last year.

BSES fares well, to pay 30% dividend

[Details] BSES Ltd has fared well during the year ended March 1997. The directors have recommended a dividend of 30 per cent against 28 per cent last year. This means a dividend amount (including corporate tax on dividend) of Rs 45.45 crore compared to Rs 31.78 crore last year.
