Laloo's new venture

[Details] It is a measure of Bihar Chief Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav's helplessness, rather than strength, that he has engineered a virtual split in the Janata Dal. The moment it became clear that he did not have the ghost of a chance in a direct contest with Sharad Yadav for the party presidentship, he realised that his place was outside the Janata Dal.

[Details] The great leap forward made by the West Bengal CPI(M) in recent times had raised hopes that it was coming in line with the rest of the world. It transpires that it is -- but in a totally unexpected manner.

A fall that isn't fall enough

[Details] It was the spring of the fall of Brahmins in Bihar, March 1990. And there were not many mourning. The Brahmins, small in number (some five-six percent of the state's ninety-odd million people), too were not unanimous in their sorrow: the rise of the great Yadava was too much of an excitement to have left anyone just mourning.
