Backers of Radovan Karadzic booted his main rival, Biljana Plavsic, from the ruling party, accusing her of promoting a split that endangers Bosnian Serbs and abetting NATO's hunt for war crimes suspects.

Arms lobby targets new NATO nations
Western arms manufacturers are hungrily eyeing the three former Communist countries that have just been granted membership of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) defence pact. Alliance membership for Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic comes on condition that its NATO contingents operate weapons and command systems that can be completely integrated into wider NATO operational networks.
