Pande back as president of Nagpur Seva Dal unit

NAGPUR: Chandrakant Dayma, president of Maharashtra unit of Congress Seva Dal, reshuffled the state body recently. The senior Congress leader and former vice president of state unit of Seva Dal, Krishnakumar Pande, has been re-appointed as president of Nagpur City Congress Seva Dal in place of Bajrangsinh Parihar.

According to Seva Dal sources, Parihar has been rehabilitated and posted as vice president of state body. Parihar, was in the news a few months back when he was shunted out from the post. However, Parihar succeeded in stalling the appointment and stayed for the post for another couple of months.

Pune banks to accept soiled notes

PUNE: Puneites weary of handling soiled and damaged currency notes, will no longer be compelled to depend on local agents who exchange them at a substantial premium, as the service will henceforth be offered at all branches of nationalised banks in the city. The relief has come in the form of a Reserve Bank of India directive according to which such notes will be accepted in all branches of nationalised banks in Pune. The facility which was previously available only in nine branches of select nationalised banks, has now been extended to all branches of nationalised banks in the city. The notes thus collected will be forwarded to the RBI.

ABS activists held in Aurangabad

NAGPUR: The arrest of ganlord-turned-social activist, Arun Gawli, had repercussions in Aurangabad and Jalna. Fifty ABS activists, including a few women, were arrested in the city when they tried to take out a morcha in violation of the prohibitory orders invoked all over. In Jalna, ABS activists pelted stones on a bus and a private truck and forced the main market and shop-keepers to down shutters. However they were soon arrested.

Erring builders face legal action

PUNE: More than 700 erring builders from the 36 fringe villages scheduled for a merger with Pune Municipal Corporation, were likely to be pulled into the local courts here with the investigations launched by the concerned police into their unauthorised construction activities, entering final stages. Police inspectors are through with the investigations at their level and are expected to file cases against each of the erring builders at the civil court here at the earliest. The unprecedented action of filing criminal cases against the builders was initiated by the district collectorate early this year under provisions of Section 52 of MRTP Act, 1966.

Misar likely to be shunted out

NAGPUR: The controversial Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Nagpur University, K G Misar, is likely to be shunted out, and K R Khamborkar, a retired employee of Union Government-sponsored, Central Board of Workers' Education (CBWE) may be appointed as acting head of the institution. A formal order in this regard will be issued within the next couple of days.
