HC order to foreign varsities


CHENNAI, July 30: Foreign universities and concerned authorities have been restrained by the Madras High Court from collecting fees, conducting courses and confering degrees to students in India. The institutions that included Aptech, University of Leeds and First Computers had invited applications for various courses ranging from engineering to MBA. The petitioner held that degrees to students in India could be conferred only by universities established under an Act of Parliament or State Legislature and private firms doing so with aid of foreign uiniversities is illegal.
