Bogus sportsmen bag MBBS seats in Bangalore

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

BANGALORE, Aug 11: Ever heard of the names -- Rama Babu, Anupama Tedkode and Abdul Rahim Khan?

These are supposedly the names of sportspersons who represented Karnataka in national level swimming events.

Last year, the Government of Karnataka rewarded the three candidates and a few others, with the much priced MBBS seats after the Sports and Youth Services Directorate (SYSD) certified their credentials.

While Anupama the proud owner of a seat at KIMS was a 16,220 medical rank holder, Abdul Rahim Khan admitted to Dr Ambedkar Medical College, Bangalore figures at 11,193 in the medical rank list. Such cases are dime a dozen.

Till last year, the CET Cell used to allot seats under sports quota to students on the basis of the list, furnished by the SYSD. The directorate used to prepare the list considering the performance of a candidate in sports.
