Election or new coalition? -- Congress holds all the cards

[Details] Here, on the one hand, is a Prime Minister so much the yes-man that he gives rubber-stamps an inferiority complex. Inder Kumar Gujral is willing to stomach any insult -- even barracking on the floor of the House from his own party president -- if he can stick to his post.

Democracy vs good governance

[Details] The IMF has recently accepted `good governance' as one of the criteria for eligibility of loans. A loan to Argentina was put on hold on these grounds. The World Bank too in its latest World Development Report has stressed that good governance is a prerequisite for growth.
