Rains, depressions bring Mumbai to a halt
Depressions took a toll of two cities -- Mumbai on the west coast and Midnapore on the east coast. A revival of the monsoon in western Maharashtra with the depression hovering over east Madhya Pradesh adjoining Vidarbha virtually cut off Mumbai from the rest of the country. This is the first time in the last 18 months that the central bank has entered the foreign exchange market to sell dollars and prop up the rupee.

Asian Paints board says no to ICI
The board of directors of Asian Paints (India) Ltd on Friday decided to reject the transfer of 36.66 lakh shares in the name of ICI plc, terming the latter's stake acquisition from managing director Atul Choksey as "unfriendly, unwelcome and in nobody's interest". Choksey himself has resigned from the board.

Promoters to sign shareholder pact to prevent another Chokse
The three remaining promoters of Asian Paints -- the Choksis, the Danis and the Vakils -- have decided to enter into a new shareholding agreement to prevent the occurrence of another crisis like the one precipitated by the decision of Atul Choksey to sell his stake to ICI plc.
