[Details] Underwriting losses in the motor insurance industry is likely to touch Rs 700 crore for 1996-97. The surplus of claim over premium is expected to touch a staggering high Rs 700 crore mark compared to Rs 275 crore in 1995-96 and Rs 636 crore in 1994-95.

TCI-Tisco merger ruled out

[Details] Tisco managing director J J Irani clarified that the company has no plans to merge the loss-making Tinplate Company of India with itself. Irani, who is also the chairman of Tinplate, was reacting to a suggestion made by some shareholders at Tinplate's 78th annual general meeting.
