It was during the wee hours of September 30, 1993, that the Latur and Osmanabad districts in Maharashtra were shaken by an earthquake of magnitude about 6.3 on Richter Scale. While the classification of this earthquake was described as moderate, it had taken a toll of about ten thousand lives.
