[Details] The Gujral government should hold an enquiry to find out why the Westland helicopters were purchased in the first place and why the deal was not cancelled earlier. The helicopters did not perform from day one and have been obsolete for some years.

Instability in Gujarat

[Details] A long spell of political instability looks inevitable in Gujarat as its three major political parties engage in a new round of jockeying for power. Party ideologies are virtually non-existent and party policies are in a state of flux.

Damning the dam and the quake

[Details] It was during the wee hours of September 30, 1993, that the Latur and Osmanabad districts in Maharashtra were shaken by an earthquake of magnitude about 6.3 on Richter Scale. While the classification of this earthquake was described as moderate, it had taken a toll of about ten thousand lives.
