Sharif in dock over coercion
Pakistan's Supreme Court has opened an inquiry against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for alleged misuse of power. The court has called two opposition Members of Parliament to testify before Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah about their charges that Sharif had pressured banks and about alleged irregularities in a wheat import contract.
| Industrial Development Act to be amended
The Centre is likely to amend the Industries Development and Regulation Act 1951 in a bid to remove lacunae which had resulted in the government investing in non-essential business sectors. An expert committee had been formed to review the Act and suggest ways to modify, amend and simplify it.
